Fig. 1 shows solution pH as a function of stirring time after 3.0 g mineral was added into 100 ml distilled water. Obviously, the dissolution rate of dolomite was much faster than that of magnesite. Magnesite reached the dissolution equilibrium at pH 9.0 from the initial pH 6.3 in 30 min, while dolomite reached the final pH of 9.2 in 10 min.
